Celebrate British Food Fortnight with Sharrow Bay Posted on 07/12/2007
Foodies will be waiting with great anticipation for this years’ forthcoming British Food Fortnight, which runs 22 September to 7 October and will see shops, pubs, restaurants and hotels come together to celebrate all things yummy and British! von Essen hotels are no exception, and head chefs across the 25 von Essen properties have put their thinking caps on to create a selection of mouth watering menus featuring some of the finest ingredients the country has to offer.
Von Essen’s Sharrow Bay hotel is demonstrating its close working relationship with local Cumbrian suppliers and producers by creating a three-course locally sourced menu priced at just £25. The Michelin star chefs use some of the finest local produce from suppliers within the area and the menu features a choice of Suisesse Souffle of Spinach of Fillet of Plaice for starters, Noisette of Local Venison or Best End of Local Lamb for main course, and Francis Coulson’s Famous and Original Icky Sticky Toffee Sponge served with cream for dessert.
The founders of the original recipe, Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel launched its wickedly indulgent creation – Sharrow Sticky Toffee Pudding – last year and it is now available for purchase at Harvey Nichols and Lakeland stores nationwide. Francis Coulson, the original owner of the hotel discovered the secret recipe for the pudding. Influenced by a dish from the south of England, Francis refined the recipe adding his secret touch and the award winning chefs at the hotel have been serving it ever since. To mark the hotel’s 60th birthday the chefs are currently developing the ultimate Chocolate Pudding which will go on sale in Lakeland stores shortly.
