Sharrow Bay Country House Hotel re-awarded Michelin Star for 12th year running Posted on 23/01/2008
In Sharrow Bay’s 60th anniversary year, the hotel has even more reason to celebrate having joined an exclusive group of only four restaurants in the North of England and Scotland by being re-awarded the highly coveted Michelin star for more than 11 years.
The internationally renowned kitchen, led by Cumbrian Head Chef Colin Akrigg, uses the finest local ingredients to produce some of the best ‘British’ cuisine you are likely to find. According to the guide editor Derek Bulmer there is a growing trend of Michelin star establishments that ‘use locally grown seasonal produce with information on food provenance and sustainability.’ Sharrow Bay’s midweek local lunch menus priced at £25 are at the forefront of this trend through the use of the finest local ingredients with direct traceability to each farm the produce is sourced from. General Manager Andrew King commented ‘We have taken this local trend a stage further this year by donating £1 from each local lunch sold to the Cumbrian based ‘Help a CFM Child’ charity’.
The announcement of the Michelin star comes hot on the heels of the news that the hotel has launched a wickedly indulgent chocolate and ginger pudding to rival its world famous creation, sticky toffee pudding, as part of the hotels 60th year celebrations. Both these desserts are available through Harvey Nichols and Lakeland stores nationwide and have been hugely successful since their launch.
The award winning Sharrow Bay enjoys an idyllic setting, located on the shores of Lake Ullswater, surrounded by farmland and fells providing some of the finest views in the Lake District. The hotel is also conveniently located for the lakes of Windermere, Grasmere, Buttermere and Derwentwater.
