The Huffington Post has chosen us as one of the world’s 10 Best Lakeside Hotels, so our beautiful location and view will no longer be one of the best kept secrets in the Lakes. Regular guests take advantage of our jetty as the way to arrive at our waterside terrace, and enjoy a choice of lake-view dining or cocktails. It is a really special way to experience lakes life, the east side of Ullswater is unspoilt and secluded – one of the few places still untouched by modernisation. Sharrow Bay is one of the newer houses, built in 1840 to take advantage of our particular view south down the lake as it zigzags towards Helvellyn in all her majesty. Anthony Parkin knew exactly what he was doing when he picked this spot for his fishing lodge; we’re still enjoying the wisdom and discretion of his choice, and are happy to share it with you too. A contemporary guest of his said of the view, ‘From here Ullswater is seen to wondrous advantage and its ever changing beauties can be thoroughly enjoyed’. We’re very appreciative The Huffington Post recognises the English lakes can match the best the world has to offer; and we have even more good news! Cumbria Tourism has shortlisted us for The Best Small Hotel of the Year 2016. And in quest of a hat-trick and to help spread the word about how special our beautiful Ullswater location is, we’d like you to help us earn a third nomination - for the Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence, 2017: Best Waterside Hotel in the UK. If you think our special combination of hospitality, informal and fine dining options, all enhanced by our spectacular unspoilt view, is worthy of recognition - please vote for us via the link to Johansens here.
