Worlds Most Expensive Marmalade Sold on Ullswater

The winners of 'World's Most Expensive Marmalde'

Sharrow Bay welcomed Mr and Mrs Rigby this weekend, as the winning bidders on our ‘World’s Most Expensive Marmalade’, to collect the specially blended marmalade in its Cumbria Crystal preserve jar. Here is general Manager Oliver Smith presenting Mrs Rigby with her prize, (the cherubs look like they’re offering extra gifts too). Mrs Jean Rigby and her husband have been regular visitors to Ullswater and Sharrow Bay over many years, and were keen to help with post floods fundraising, (100% of the bid went to the Cumbria Community Foundation via Ebay). They have been visitors to the hotel many times over the past decades, for personal reasons it has a special place in their hearts, so it was lovely for all of us at Sharrow Bay to welcome them back. They enjoyed their spring weekend, noting that ‘Sharrow is back to its former glory well and truly’. Which we take as a great compliment from such long-standing visitors. Thank you for being such generous bidders, and we look forward to seeing you again soon! Our special Sharrow bay fine Seville marmalade, worth £700 a jar, was laced with a rare 1977 Louis Marcellin Armagnac and 22.5 carat gold leaf. We presented it in a Cumbria Crystal Preserve Pot, (Fine Crystal suppliers to Downton Abbey and James Bond).
